“Last week I was at Digital Book World, reporting on industry discussions of current marketing practices and emerging business trends for my newsletter, The Hot Sheet. I also moderated a panel on how indie authors and traditional publishers are finding common ground and collaborating.
“Here are some of my high-level takeaways for authors from my two days at the conference.
All four lessons here about on-line presence, trusting mainstream media headlines about publishing, finding readers, and pricing may not resonate with all writers. Our needs and goals are different.
But there’s food for thought here. Perhaps the most interesting to me is the suggestion that we “Identify just one person online who is the dream reader that you’d like to clone.” I admit that knowing just who my readers are or might be is a puzzle, but focusing ads, posts, book descriptions and social media updates will be more successful once we figure out who they are.
